Tävlingen körs enligt IFSSs regler.

Förare måste för att få starta ha fyllt 18 år, ha giltig tävlingslicens och hundarna måste vara vaccinerade och chipmärkta. För svenska förare gäller dessutom krav på Grönt kort.
Förare ska närvara vid de förarmöten som hålls före tävlingen samt även andra möten som
påkallas. Huvuddomaren kan kringgå denna regel om föraren försenats genom oförutsedda omständigheter. Emellertid, om så skett, är föraren skyldig att inhämta nödvändig information av funktionär före start.

Släden ska vara försedd med tillräcklig broms, bromsmatta, buskbåge, TVÅ snöankare samt transportsäck och obligatorisk utrustning. Bromsmattan ska vara tillräckligt stor för att kunna kontrollera spannet.



Hjälp på checkpoints
Deltagare kan få motta hjälp med att bromsa, hålla och styra spannet fram till, och ut från, anvisad uppställningsplats. Sådan hjälp kan bara fås inom markerat område på checkpoint.

Obligatorisk vila
Tobacco Trail har tre obligatoriska vilor. En 2-timmars obligatorisk vila med tidsutjämning på checkpoint Övre Soppero 1 och 6-timmars obligatorisk vila på checkpoint Sonkamuotka samt 6 timmars obligatorisk vila på checkpoint Övre Soppero 2.
Samtliga föraren måste själva signera ut sig från checkpoints.

Checkpoints
Checkpoints är att betrakta som delmål i tävlingen.
Förare skall ha på sig nummerlappen när de kommer till- och lämnar checkpoint. Både förare och handlers skall ha på sig nummerlapparna under tiden de uppehåller sig på uppställningsområdet.
Handler skall städa upp halm efter sin förare på checkpoint efter att föraren har lämnat området. Krattor och sopsäckar fås av arrangören.

Checkpoint Sonkamuotka:
Checkpoint Sonkamuotka stänger 10 timmar efter första spannet har lämnat checkpoint.

Checkpoint Övre Soppero 2 stänger 15 timmar efter första spannet har lämnat checkpoint. Det innebär att tävlingsledningen ej kommer att ha funktionär på plats.
Den tävlande kan fortsätta och själv anteckna tiden för avfärd.
Tävlingsledningen har möjlighet att ändra/anpassa dessa tider.

Depå
Depå finns på samtliga checkpoints. Depåsäckar placeras på det markerade området. Märk tydligt upp depåsäcken med namn och startnummer. Tillåtet att byta släde.

Kylbag, eller liknande utrustning, som är i depån skall vara tom och tas tom ut av föraren till uppställningsområdet för spannet. Det är inte tillåtet att förse de tävlande med varmt vatten eller färdigblandat hundfoder vid depån.

Föraren fraktar allt som tas ut från depån till uppställningsområdet. Detsamma gäller utrustning och allt avfall från uppställningsplatsen tillbaks till depån.

Obligatorisk utrustning

Följande utrustning är obligatorisk att ha i släden under tävlingen. Det finns ett allmänt krav på att utrustningen ska vara funktionell för att vara godkänt. Utrustningen kontrolleras före start, på checkpoints och i mål.

Två (2) snöankare. Kartor alternativt skoterkartor. Skoterkartor tillhandahålls i sekretariatet.
Veterinärhandbok (delas ut vid registrering).
Vattenkokare/hundkök med en behållare för att värma minst 0,5 liter vatten per hund. Skall finnas i släden under hela tävlingen. Föraren ska ha möjlighet att värma vatten för egen del i hundköket/alternativt spritkök.
Magnetisk kompass.
Snöspade.
Yxa eller stor kniv (minst 20 cm blad).
Sovsäck för extrema förhållanden.
Extremvindsäck för extrem väderlek.
Extra kläder.
Förstahjälpenutrustning för förare och hundar.
Pannlampa och batterier.
Tändstickor.
8 sockar/hund från varje checkpoint, inklusive de som är i bruk. Nödranson till hundarna, ett halvt kilo per hund i spannet vid start. Detta foder skall packas separat, förseglas och föras till mål oöppnat oavsett hur många hundar man tagit ut under tävlingen. Föraren skall ha mat till sig själv för minimum ett dygn och föras över mållinjen.







Obligatorisk utrustning som förlorats eller blivit förstörd kan hämtas/ersättas från depåsäck. Byte av trasig teknisk utrustning får ske på checkpoint i samråd med domare eller tävlingsledning. Förbrukade hundsockor, batterier, sopsäck, bränsle till kokare/spritkök kan ersättas från depåsäck efter eget önskemål.

Skötsel och utfodring av hundar
All omvårdnad och utfodring av hundar får endast utföras av föraren. Det är bara tillåtet att ta med kallt vatten för matlagning av hundmat. All utfodring av hundar skall ske utomhus

Död hund
Om en hund dör under tävlingen på spåret mellan checkpoints, så måste den tas till nästkommande checkpoint eller tillbaks till föregående checkpoint. Hunden ska transporteras i släden och täckas vid ankomst till checkpoint. Föraren skall så snart som möjligt efter att ha ankommit till checkpoint uppsöka domare, tävlingsledning och/eller tävlingsveterinär. Föraren kan bara fortsätta tävla efter att tillstånd beviljats av domare, tävlingsledning och/eller tävlingsveterinär. Föraren kan diskvalificeras från deltagande om det framgår av undersökningarna att föraren gjort sig skyldig till misshandel av hund eller annat som ledde till hundens död. Föraren kan också diskvalificeras om han/hon vid en tidigare checkpoint har fått skriftligt besked om att lämna sin hund, om inte hunden dog på grund av andra orsaker. Om det krävs en obduktion av hunden kommer det inte att debiteras föraren.

Draglinor
Det skall finnas en wire i huvudlinan/mittlinan.

Fri körning
Det är fri körning minst 1 km före mål, och skall vara tydligt markerat. Spåret på denna sträcka bör vara tillräckligt brett att spann kan passera.

Brott mot reglerna
Brott mot bestämmelserna om extern hjälp kan leda till att föraren diskvalificeras.

Renbetesland
Spåret är delvis draget i renbetesland, därför måste hundarna hållas under sträng kontroll. Deltagare är ansvariga för eventuella skador han/hennes spann orsakar renar.
Nedskräpning
Nedskräpning längs leden kan leda till diskvalificering.

Övrigt
Arrangören kan kräva att föraren bär reklam på kläder eller på släden.

En deltagare som väljer att bryta tävlingen skall så snart som möjligt underrätta tävlingsledningen och ansvarar för att transportera sig själva, sina hundar och sin utrustning och depåsäckar från checkpoints.
Eftersökningar efter förare startar normalt ca 24 timmar efter sista kontakten. Onödig fördröjning mellan checkpoints bör därför undvikas.

En hund som är i släden när föraren kommer till checkpoint är inte ute ur tävlingen om inte föraren önskar det.

Tillåtet att använda stavar, dock med förbehåll att inget annat spann ska finnas närmare än 50 meter. Huvudregel är att hundar i andra spann inte ska störas stavarna.

Skriftliga protest skall lämnas till domare/ inom en (1) timme efter målgång. Protest avgift är 50 SEK.
Veterinärinformation
Deltagarna måste vara införstådd med- och följa den veterinära information arrangören ger.
Som förare har Du genom anmälan till Tobacco Trail förbundit Dig att följa gällande dopingföreskrifter avseende såväl förare (RF: s dopingreglemente www.rf.se ) som hund (Nationellt dopingreglemente för hund, www.skk.se, avseende karenstider och dispensmöjligheter för förbjudna substanser och metoder).

Rules for TOBACCO TRAIL 2012



The race abides by IFSS's rules.

The musher must be at least 18 years old, have a valid racing license and the dogs must be vaccinated and chip marked. Swedish mushers also have to have Grönt kort. The musher have to be present at the mushers meetings that will be held before the race and also other meetings that might be announced. The chief judge can evade this rule if the musher has been delayed by unforseen cirumstances. But, in that case, the musher is obligaded to find out the required information before start.

The sled should be equipped with sufficient brakes, scooter mat, brush bow, TWO snow hooks as well as sled bag. The scooter mat should be of sufficient size to control the team. 

Help at checkpoints.
Participants may receive help braking, holding and steering the team to, and out from, marked areas. This kind of help can only be received within marked area at the checkpoint.

Mandatory Rest
Tobacco Trail have three mandatory rests. A 2 hour mandatory rest with time compensation in checkpoint Övre Soppero 1, a 6 hour mandatory rest at checkpoint Saviomoutka and another 6 hour mandatory rest at checkpoint Övre Soppero 2.
The musher shall personally check out of all checkpoints.

Checkpoints
Checkpoints are to be seen as control posts of the race.
The musher has to carry the bib number when arriving at and leaving the checkpoint. Both musher and handler have to carry their bib number while they are in the stake out area.

The handler must rake the straw after its musher after the team has left the checkpoint. Equipment and trash bags are provided by the organizer.

Checkpoint Saivomuotka and Övre Soppero 2:
Checkpoint Saivomuotka will close 10 hours after the first team have left the checkpoint.
Checkpoint Övre Soppero 2 will close 15 hours after the first team have left the checkpoint.
The race organization remains the right to change/adapt these times.
This means that the race committee will not have officials in place.
The musher can continue and write down the time of departure.

Depot
There are depots at every checkpoint. Depot bags should be marked with the musher's name and bib number and put in the marked area. Changing sleds is allowed.

Cooling bag, or suchlike equipment, that is in the depot shall be empty and be taken out empty by the musher to the staging area. It is not allowed to provide warm water or mixed dog food.
The musher must bring everything taken out from the depot to the staging area. The same goes for equipment and potential waste going from the staging area back to the depot.

Mandatory gear

Följande utrustning är obligatorisk att ha i släden under tävlingen. Det finns ett allmänt krav på att utrustningen ska vara funktionell för att vara godkänt. Utrustningen kontrolleras före start, på checkpoints och i mål.

Two snow hooks. Maps/snowmobile trail maps. Snowmobile trail maps can be found in the secretariat.
Veterinarian handbook (will be distributed upon checking in).
Water cooker and pot, capable of heating a minimum of ½ litre. To be carried in the sled for the entire race.
Magnetic compass.
Snow shovel.
Axe or long knife (min. 20 cm blade)
Sleeping bag for extrem winter.
Extrem survival bag for extrem wheather.
Extra set of clothing.
First aid kit for musher and dogs.
Head lamp and batteries.
Matshes.
8 socks/dog from every checkpoint, including the ones being used.
Reserve dog food, ½ kg per dog in the team at start. This food is to be packed, sealed and carried to the finish unopened, regardless the number of dogs dropped in the race.The musher has to have food for min. 24 hours to him/herself in the sled at the finish.
Mandatory gear that is lost or damaged can be taken/replaced from the depot bag. Any replacement of mandatory gear must first be approved by a judge/race marshal/checkpoint official. Used dog booties, headlamp/batteries, rubbish sack and fuel for the water cooker/primus can be replaced from depot.

Caring and feeding of dogs
All feeding and care of dogs shall happen outdoors and only be carried out by the musher. Only cold water may be fetched for preparing dog food.

Dead dog
If a dog dies during the race on the trail between checkpoints, it is to be taken to the next checkpoint or back to the previous checkpoint. The dog is to be transported in the sled and to be covered upon arriving to the checkpoint. The musher shall without delay after checking in notify the race organiser as represented by the race marshal, race director and/or race veterinarian. The musher can only continue the race after obtaining permission to do so by the race marshal, race director and/or race veterinarian. The musher can be disqualified from further participation should it be evident from investigations that the musher is guilty of abuse of the dog or if having in any other way caused the death of the dog. The musher can also be disqualified if he/she at an earlier checkpoint has been told in writing to drop the dog, unless its death was caused by entirely different reasons. If an autopsy of the dog is required, the musher will not be charged.

Tow line
There shall be cable in the center tow line.

No Man's Land
No Man's Land starts at least 1 km before the finishing line and shall be clearly marked. The trail in this stretch shall be broad enough for dog teams to pass each other.

Breaking the rules
Breaking the rules regarding outside assistance can lead to disqualification of the musher.

Reeindear
The trail goes partly through reindeer grazing areas. The dogs must therefore be kept under strict control. The musher is liable for damages caused by his/her team to reindeers.
Littering
Littering along the trail may lead to disqualification.

Other rules
The race organizer can instruct the mushers to wear promotional  materials on clothes or sleds.

A participant choosing to scratch from the race shall as soon as possible notify the race management and is him/herself responsible for transportation of him/herself, their dogs, equipment and depots from the checkpoints.

Rescue searches will normally be initiated 24 hours after the last point of contact. Unnecessary stops between the check points should therefore be avoided.

A dog that lies in the sled when the musher arrives at a checkpoint is not out of the race unless the musher so desires.

It is allowed to use ski sticks, as long as no other team is closer than 50 meters. The general rule is that the dogs in the other team should not be disturbed by the ski sticks.

Protests shall be submitted to the race marshal/jury in writing no later than 1 hour after reaching the finishing line. The protest submission fee is 50 SEK.

Veterinary information and anti-doping rules

Participants are obliged to understand and adhere to the vet information the organiser has distributed.
As musher YOU have by entering Tobacco Trail, committed yourself to follow the present anti-doping regulations concerning both driver (RF´s doping regulations www.rf.se) as well as dogs (National doping regulations for dogs, www.skk.se, concerning waiting period, dispensation possibilities for forbidden substances and methods).
